The Calder Game - Blue Balliett If you've read the other two books in this series, you'll know exactly what to expect. And you really should, both because they're both very good books and because you really need to in order to fully appreciate this one. The stakes start out higher, with the mystery being the theft of a famous statue and the disappearnce of Calder. But the solving of the mystery is much the same, meaning that it won't really satisfy hardcore mystery fans who expect deduction of trails of evidence to solve the mystery. It's far more about deus ex machina resolutions and trails of meaningless coincidences somehow panning out.

That said, the suspense is good, and the characters are real. That said, I was disappointed that the apparent truce at the end of The Wright Three didn't last further than the last page. Is Tommy going to be rude to Petra for the first half of every book? And speaking of Tommy, what about his new house? I know this was Calder's mystery, but it would have been nice to return the conclusion of The Wright Three somehow.

But at the end of the day, I really like Calder and Petra, and sometimes Tommy, and I'll be happy to read anything they're in.
